How to decorate Glassy Cuts shapes:
Glassy Cuts are easy to use. Simply chose one Glassy Cuts design, wash and then use stencils, free hand techniques or enamel sifters to apply frit on the surfaceof your Glassy Cuts.
Either side is usable when layering with System 82 Float Glass Frit. The frit has high saturation so a little goes a long way. When sifting, if the glass is covered with frit then you have enough colorant to give you a vibrant color.
To achieve different effects, try tapering out the colorant for softer look, Layer the frit for color effects or use a different size frit to add texture and design. Please note, larger frit does not go thru stencils very well but can be applied with fingers or tweezers.
Lastly, fuse in your own kiln with our firing schedule.
For lots of techniques and recipes, see our book in the Accessories Section, Cooking with Glass- A Complete Guide to Working with System 82 Float Glass and Glassy Cuts
How to work with Mosaic Glass:
Mosaic glass is pre-colored, pre-designed System 82 Float Glass that comes in 8×8 sheets. They can be cut up, arranged and glue to the surface of our Glassy Cuts or any Float glass, then fuse to make wonderful Mosaic glass shapes and art.
Directions: Simply use your glass cutter to score on the top or bottom of the Mosaic glass, break on the score line and glue with glass tac glue to the surface of our Glassy Cuts or any float glass. Then use our firing schedule to fuse the glass together.
Design notes:
- It’s best if the color layer or top side of the mosaic glass in facing up when glued to the surface of the Glassy Cuts.
- If the mosaic glass is highly textured just score on the bottom of the glass when cutting.
- In gap areas, it’s fun to fill them in with our System 82 size 4 float frit.
Working With System 82 Float Glass Frit:
System 82 Float Frit comes in a large variety of colors. It is sold in 8oz jars or 2 pound jars. A little goes a long way and a small amount will give good saturation. The colors are available in frit size 0-5. Currently, we are carrying the colors in frit sizes 0 (powder) or frit size 4. These two sizes have been our staple for nearly 20 years to create so many different effects. If another size is needed, we can create a custom order for you.
This frit is compatible for our System 82 Float Glass Glassy Cuts AND all float glass. That means you can use this frit to create projects with float glass from your local glass shop. See the shop page for our Cooking with Glass Book. It covers different techniques on working with frit and some recipes and much more.
All shapes are available in System 82 Float Glass.
We are also the provider for System 82 Float Glass frit to use on our Glassy Cuts or any float glass projects.
Each system requires the use of it’s own system of frit so that the Glassy Cuts and frit are compatible. It is not recommended that you mix systems.
What’s the difference between System 82 and system 90?
• All shapes are available in System 82 Float Glass.
• We are also the provider for System 82 Float Glass frit to use on our Glassy Cuts or any float glass projects.
• Each system requires the use of it’s own system of frit so that the Glassy Cuts and frit are compatible. It is NOT recommended that you mix systems.
• Both systems will give you a beautiful end product but there are some differences.
• System 90 is an art glass that is made by Bullseye Glass and has it’s own compatible frit. 90 is tested and it’s quality is consistent.
• System 82 Float Glass is window glass and there are many manufactures. They are not all consistent but we have tested to find the highest quality float glass and that is what Glassy Cuts are cut from. You will always get excellent and consistent quality projects from our Glassy Cuts. Float glass can be purchased at your local glass shop or some art glass stores carry float glass.
• The float glass is 1/8″ (3.175mm) and the system 90 glass is 4mm.
• No need to stack the glass, you only need one shape. Then decorate and fuse it.
• The float glass is a harder glass therefore will hold a firm edge. That means the little details show up more with the float system after it has been fired.
• You will need to apply less frit when using the float system.
• For your convenience, we carry all the color frit for system 82, and system 82 mosaic glass. See the shop page.
Regardless, you can’t go wrong with either system!
